About this piece
The Hour of the Ox falls around two in the morning, and its deepest part is called ushimitsu-doki, the dead of night. The summer custom of eating eel on the Day of the Ox in doyō also comes from a calendar that assigns the zodiac signs to days.
This standing plaque, painted with an ox by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda, can be given to someone born in the Year of the Ox or used as a zodiac decoration.
