Every doll here is made by hand, one at a time, by Toshiya Honda in Fukuoka. Take your time over the finely hand-painted garments and the gentle expressions of the faces.

Hina Dolls

20 pieces

Paired dolls for the Doll Festival on 3 March. Twenty pieces, from a 6cm pair that sits in the palm of the hand to a 34cm set with real presence. Most come complete with folding screen, stand and paulownia box.

Kōgō Incense Containers

12 pieces

Incense containers and miniature pieces to place beside a Hina pair. Twelve works between 4cm and 10cm, including a battledore, a biwa lute and the auspicious treasure motifs.

Boys' Festival Pieces

7 pieces

Figures for Tango-no-sekku on 5 May. Seven pieces on themes that wish a child health and strength, including Momotarō, Kintarō and the demon-queller Shōki, from 8cm to 31cm.

Celebratory Pieces

33 pieces

Works for weddings, births and the opening of a business. Thirty-three pieces, including subjects from the Noh plays Hagoromo and Kumano, the fortune gods Daikokuten and Ebisu, and the twelve zodiac guardian deities.

Zodiac Figures

27 pieces

A new figure is made each year for the animal of the Chinese zodiac. Twenty-seven pieces in all: the annual figures from 2010 to 2024, together with a standing plaque for each of the twelve animals.

Nitten Exhibition Works

Major works shown at the Nitten and the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Fourteen pieces between 62cm and 78cm, including the Mai that received the Special Prize.
