About this piece
The Japanese word for an afternoon snack, oyatsu, comes from yatsu-doki, the Edo-period name for the hour around two in the afternoon. In the zodiac this is the Hour of the Sheep, a gentle moment to pause and draw breath.
This standing plaque, painted with a sheep by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda, can be given to someone born in the Year of the Sheep or enjoyed as a zodiac decoration.
