About this piece
The Rooster is the only bird among the twelve signs. The character for this sign originally depicted a jar for sake, and its shape survives in characters connected with brewing, such as those for sake and soy sauce. The Hour of the Rooster falls around six in the evening, at dusk.
This standing plaque, painted with a rooster by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda, can be given to someone born in the Year of the Rooster or enjoyed as a zodiac decoration.
