About this piece
The Boar, the last of the twelve signs, is a wild boar in Japan, while in China, Korea and elsewhere the sign is the pig. That the same sign takes different animals in different countries is thought to reflect how the zodiac was adapted to local life as it spread.
This standing plaque, painted with a wild boar by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda, can be given to someone born in the Year of the Boar or enjoyed as a zodiac decoration.
