About this piece
Because the snake grows by shedding its skin again and again, it has long symbolised rebirth and vitality. It is also said to be the messenger of Benzaiten of the Seven Lucky Gods, and there is a saying that keeping a shed snakeskin in your purse brings good fortune with money.
This 10cm Hakata doll was made for the Year of the Snake in 2013, a charm for a healthy, fruitful year.
