About this piece
The second standing Hina pair to bear the name Sei-tachi-bina, made as Hakata dolls. As the character sei ("pure") suggests, the pair is shaped around a clear, serene presence.
The festival on 3 March is called the Peach Festival because peach trees blossomed around this time under the old lunar calendar. Peaches have long been thought to ward off evil, and Hina dolls are still often displayed with peach blossoms.
