About this piece
Utage, "banquet", is a word for a gathering where people enjoy song, dance, food and drink. In early times it was also the setting of rites to entertain the gods, and in Japanese culture it has long been a precious time for sharing joy.
This work, accepted for the 37th Nitten in 2005, is one of Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda's UTAGE series.
