About this piece
At the Nitten, large numbers of works submitted from all over Japan are put through strict judging, and only those selected are exhibited as accepted works. This Mai by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda was accepted for the 43rd Nitten in 2011.
In the same year, his Mai (Noh) won the Full Member's Prize at the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Exhibition, making this a work from a particularly fruitful year.
