About this piece
Daikokuten was originally an Indian deity. In Japan, because "daikoku" sounds like the name of the native god Ōkuninushi, the two came to be worshipped as one. Usually shown standing on rice bales with a large sack and a lucky mallet, he is loved as a god of abundant harvests and wealth.
This piece renders Daikokuten, the bringer of good fortune, as a 23cm Hakata doll. Welcome him into a place of business or a new home to invite good fortune.
