About this piece
In the Noh play Takasago, the pine of Takasago in Harima and the pine of Sumiyoshi in Settsu are told of as "paired pines" whose hearts are joined though they stand far apart, and their spirits appear as an old couple, Jō and Uba. The play is widely known through the lines sung at weddings, "Takasago ya, kono urafune ni ho wo agete".
This is a pair of Hakata dolls representing Jō and Uba. Besides weddings, it is a fitting gift for couples who have shared many years, as for a golden or silver wedding anniversary.
