About this piece
Kannon is the bodhisattva of compassion, who hears the cries of those who suffer and reaches out to save them. Kannon is said to take many forms according to who is in need, and the form of a mother holding an infant has long been revered as a guardian of child-rearing and safe childbirth.
This Jibo Kannon, "Kannon as loving mother", is a 25cm Hakata doll. It suits congratulations on a birth, or may be welcomed as a figure of prayer for a family's peaceful days.
