About this piece
Sange is a Buddhist rite of scattering flowers as an offering to the Buddha. Fresh flowers were once used, but today it is usual to scatter keha, paper cut in the shape of lotus petals, and some people keep the beautifully coloured petals as treasured mementoes.
This 24cm Hakata doll takes sange as its subject, a quiet piece in which to sense the prayer carried by falling flowers.
