About this piece
Dainichi Nyorai is the central Buddha of esoteric Buddhism, regarded as the very truth of the universe. As his name, "Great Sun", suggests, he illuminates all things like the sun. Unlike other Buddhas in simple robes, he is distinctively shown in splendour, wearing a jewelled crown and ornaments.
This 14cm Hakata doll is the guardian deity of those born in the Years of the Sheep and the Monkey, a fitting gift for their birthday or for the year their own sign comes round.
