About this piece
Fudō Myōō is said to be a manifestation of Dainichi Nyorai who takes on a wrathful form in order to guide people. He is generally shown holding a sword that cuts through delusion in his right hand and a rope to draw people to safety in his left, with blazing flames behind him, the image of unshakeable strength. Affectionately called O-Fudō-san, he is deeply revered throughout Japan.
This 13cm Hakata doll is the guardian deity of those born in the Year of the Rooster, to be welcomed as a protection against misfortune or a source of strength for anyone facing hardship.
