About this piece
A palanquin, or kago, was the conveyance of nobles and brides. On tiered Hina displays, ox carts and palanquins are set on the lower steps to depict the bride's journey to her new home.
This Hina-kago by Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda is made as a small incense container. Placed beside a simple pair display, it adds the story of a full tiered set.
