About this piece
A suzuri-bako is a box that holds everything needed for writing: inkstone, ink stick, brush and water dropper. Finely decorated writing boxes were long treasured among the furnishings of court nobles and samurai households.
Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda has rendered one as an incense container. It is small enough to sit on the corner of a desk or bookshelf, to be enjoyed at a passing glance.
