About this piece
The uchide no kozuchi is a magic mallet that produces whatever one wishes when it is shaken. It is known as the mallet held by Daikokuten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, and in the folk tale Issun-bōshi it is swung to make the tiny hero grow tall.
Hakata doll maker Toshiya Honda has rendered the mallet as an incense container, a fitting touch for celebrations that wish for prosperity ahead, such as the opening of a business or a new home.
