About this piece
Tango no sekku on 5 May is a day to wish for a boy's healthy growth and success in life. Because the iris (shōbu) displayed at this season sounds like the word for valuing martial spirit, it became a festival for boys in the age of the samurai.
Satsuki-bare takes its name from the clear early-summer sky. This Hakata doll brings the bright mood of the season, when carp streamers fly, into the home.
